Bright Horizon Meet the Horses

All the horses are either donated or leased to the center. Each horse is carefully screened and evaluated by the program director for soundness, temperament, age, and smoothness of gaits. Each potential “equine therapist” then undergoes a rigorous 30-60 day evaluation period before being accepted into the program. Currently we have 5 program horses.

Information: Sweetie was purchased for Bright Horizon by Mark and Nancy Mize of South Beach, Oregon. Sweetie has a very interesting background from being a pack horse in the mountains to a rodeo court horse. She has also had a baby. Sweetie is very patient with people and has a very strong work ethic. Sweetie enjoys playing outside and eating carrots.

Information: Buzzy is our newest program horse. Buzzy led many different lives from a competitive rodeo horse, mountain trail riding horse to recently a 4-H show and gaming horse for a young girl. Because of his diverse background and training he is wonderful with new riders and emerging independent riders. He was donated by Dave and Therese Loomis of Toledo, Oregon.

Information: Delight is leased to Bright Horizon from Haylie Martin and family in 2007. Delight carried her former young rider to many blue ribbons in western and English classes both in 4-H and Open shows. Delight is a very talented horse and is currently our vaulting and dressage horse. Because of Delight’s movement and base of support, she is ideal for our young riders.

Information: Jake’s former career as an Oregon Governor’s Mounted Guard Horse was quite exciting; because of all of his special training he is very patient and quiet with riders. He is very confident and enjoys being ridden by emerging independent riders. The class clown of the barn he loves his daily carrots. Jake is leased to BHTRC by Joanne and Norm Troy of Gleneden Beach, Oregon in 2008.

Information: Ladybug is a very sweet horse. Ladybug was purchase at an auction by a young 4-H girl learning how to ride. Ladybug is wonderful with young riders and teaching our independent riders how to canter because of her smooth gaits. Ladybug is being leased to Bright Horizon by Mackenzie Orr and her family.
